Frequently Asked Questions

What days and hours is the library open?

  • The library hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 am to 6 pm; Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm; Closed Sunday and Monday.

 

How do I contact someone at the library?

  • You can call the library at (505) 466-7323, and press 5. This will get you to a live person during our open hours, or you can leave a message on the voice mail for a librarian.

  • Mail for VGPL should be sent to 7 Avenida Vista Grande, B7-192, Santa Fe, NM 87508.

Is Vista Grande Public Library part of the Santa Fe Public Library system, and can I use my SFPL card here?

  • VGPL is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and not a branch of the Santa Fe Public system.

  • Patrons must get a separate card to check out materials from VGPL. To apply for a library card, see our Library Forms page for an application.

  • Patrons should not return SFPL items to VGPL, or vice versa; the items will eventually get returned to their proper owners, but this may not be timely enough to prevent overdue notices and restrictions on your account.

 

What do I need to get a library card? Do I have to live in Eldorado to qualify?

  • VGPL will issue library cards to anyone who resides in or works in Santa Fe County, as well as to the communities of Rowe and Pecos, and families with students at El Dorado Community School.

  • To get a physical card, you need to show proof of residence or workplace in one those areas: i.e., NM Drivers License, lease or mortgage, piece of mail, student id, HOA documents.

  • Applications can be obtained at the circulation desk or printed here.

  • Online applications are available through our catalog page

 

Does the library have public computers and a printer/copier for patron use?

  • The library has public computers, both PCs and Macs, available on a first-come, first-serve basis. No library card is required.

  • Patrons may print from any of these computers to the main copier at a charge of $.15 cents per page. They also can print directly from a thumb drive. Color copies are not an option.

  • Patrons may make black and white copies directly on the main copier at a charge of $.15 cents per page. Color copies are not an option.

  • The library accepts coins and bills up to $20, local checks, and credit/debit cards for charges over $5.

  • Printing is only available from library devices.

 

Does the library have public Wi-Fi?

  • Patrons can access our public Wi-Fi, 24/7: VistaGrande-Guest, no password required.

  • The Wi-Fi extends outside the building and into the parking lot.

Does the library accept donated materials?

  • The library does accept useable donated materials such as books, audio books, DVDs, CDs and jigsaw puzzles.

  • Please consult our Library Collections Donations page for more information.

  • For other types of material donations, please consult the library staff. Please know that we are limited in our storage capacity and generally have no way to take most offered items.

Does the library sell books?

  • The library has an ongoing sales shelf in the library, located next to the circulation desk.

  • In Fall and Spring, the library holds a Book Sale fundraiser.

  • For in library book purchases, the library accepts coins and bills up to $20, local checks, and credit/debit cards for charges over $5. Payment provisions for the semi-annual Book Sale fundraiser are separate. 

 

How do I use Interlibrary Loan services?

  • Patrons with a library card may request a book through the Interlibrary Loan system by filling out the ILL form and presenting it at the library. We are not set up to take electronic requests. Print the form here, or ask for one at the circulation desk.

  • A maximum of three (3) requests per person may be made at a time.

  • There is a $3 postage charge due at the pickup of an item. Patrons might also be asked to provide a credit card number in case of lost materials.

  • Interlibrary Loan services will not take requests for materials available at the Santa Fe Public Library.

How do I request that the library purchase a book?

  • Patrons can fill out a Collection Wish List form to request that the library purchase an item.

  • Please note that we must consider price, availability and likely interest level in our patrons before making a purchase, and may ultimately not be able to fulfill requests.

How do I reserve the Meeting Room, a Cubicle, or the Phone Booth?

  • The library has a Meeting Room for larger group meetings, three (3) semi-enclosed cubicles for 2 to 3 people, and a sound proof Phone Booth for one person video conferencing.

  • Patrons can reserve one of these spaces by consulting with a library staff member, either in person, by phone (505-670-6508) or emailing librarydirector@vglibrary.org.

  • Meeting room use is permitted only to groups and only for purposes allowed under library policy. Please refer to the Meeting Room Use Agreement for more information.

  • Cubicles do not require a reservation. The Phone booth does require a reservation.

How do I volunteer at the library?

  • VGPL relies greatly on volunteers for everything from the circulation desk operations to running book sales and events.

  • You must be at least 14 years old to volunteer. Volunteers over 18 years old will need to submit to a state background check.

  • A Volunteer Application can be obtained from our Library Forms page. Please submit a completed form to the library director to proceed.
