About Us
Vista Grande Public Library (VGPL) is an independent nonprofit 501(c)(3) library established in 1999 and opened in April 2001 to support the needs of southeastern Santa Fe County including Eldorado, Cañoncito, Galisteo, Glorieta, Lamy, the Old Las Vegas Highway area and the Highway 285 south corridor.
Community residents conceptualized the facility and subsequently realized it in 2001 with an initial 1,600 square foot facility filled with donated books and staffed by scores of volunteers. Over the years, through grants and fundraising, the Library’s footprint expanded to 4,000 feet. In 2014 the County funded an expansion to 8,000 square feet, and a new professional librarian joined the staff. The library now has over 35,000 books, DVDs, music CDs and periodicals available and offers a wide variety of programs and services to meet community needs.
With the nearest library over 13 miles away, VGPL’s location in the heart of Eldorado adjacent to the El Dorado Community School and the Adam Senior Center is uniquely situated to meet the library needs of the surrounding area. Today the Library remains a vibrant resource and central community hub.
