Vista Grande Public Library - Accessibility Statement

We at Vista Grande Public Library (henceforth known as VGPL) are working to make our site www.vglibrary.org accessible to people with disabilities. VGPL is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible experience to everyone, including individuals with disabilities. VGPL's commitment is guided by our accessibility policy to ensure that people with disabilities have full and equal opportunity to access and benefit from the information offered by VGPL. 

What web accessibility is

An accessible site allows visitors with disabilities to browse the site with the same or a similar level of ease and enjoyment as other visitors. This can be achieved with the capabilities of the system on which the site is operating, and through assistive technologies.

Accessibility adjustments on this site

We have adapted this site in accordance with WCAG guidelines, and have made the site accessible to the required levels. This site's contents have been adapted to work with assistive technologies, such as screen readers and keyboard use. As part of this effort, we have also:

  • Used the Accessibility Wizard to find and fix potential accessibility issues

  • Set the language of the site 

  • Set the content order of the site’s pages

  • Defined clear heading structures on all of the site’s pages

  • Added alternative text to images

  • Implemented color combinations that meet the required color contrast

  • Reduced the use of motion on the site

  • Ensured all videos, audio, and files on the site are accessible

Declaration of partial compliance with the standard due to third-party content

The accessibility of certain pages on the site depend on contents that do not belong to the organization, and instead belong to Zeffy, Biblionix LLC, MailChimp, GuideStar, Charity Navigator, and the Google G Suite. The following pages are affected by this:

 

  • Zeffy, for site Donation Form(s) and Buttons. Links to the donation platform are present on all pages as "Donate" buttons: https://www.vglibrary.org/support-us

  • Biblionix, LLC, for access to the Library's Apollo catalog platform. Links to the library catalog are contained in the site header and appear on all website pages: https://www.vglibrary.org/Home

  • MailChimp for Library Newsletter integration and patron email subscriptions: https://www/vglibrary.org/news

  • GuideStar (Candid), a nonprofit data platform for donors, grant makers, and businesses. A link is shared in the footer and is present on all website pages: https://www.guidestar.org/

  • Charity Navigator, a nonprofit evaluator, a link is shared in the footer and is present on all website pages: https://www.charitynavigator.org/

  • Google G Suite, the platform used for Gmail communications, with various accounts listed on internal pages based on Board Member or Library Staff assignments: [recipient identity]@vglibrary.org. 

 

We therefore declare partial compliance with the standard for these pages.

VGPL has taken multiple steps to ensure the accessibility of our online experience: 

  • VGPL will continually assess the accessibility of the website: www.vglibrary.org.

  • VGPL's Staff, Board Members, and Volunteers are committed to remain knowledgeable and follow best practices for accessibility. 

Optimal Experience

The website is best used with the latest version of any of the primary web browsers: Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari. Our site is designed to be compatible with common assistive technologies including screen readers, speech recognition software, and alternative input devices. The website may not display optimally in Internet Explorer or older browsers.
