The Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation Board of Directors has awarded Vista Grande Public Library one of their 2009 Small Grants, contributing $1,475 to improve the Library’s collection of materials in the earth sciences (geology, meteorology, and hydrology). These funds will allow us to update sorely out-of-date materials on our shelves and to fill gaps in our collection of scientific books and documentary DVDs, both for youth and adults. These materials are especially important because of our community’s interest in the environment, our local natural history, and resource conservation. To both the Foundation and the LANL employees who support the Foundation – a very grateful thank you!

VGPL’s Annual Membership meeting was held on January 26, 2010: Agenda items included an overview of VGPL’s accomplishments in 2009 (presentation); recognition of Board members completing terms of office; introduction of new library director; recognition of VGPL volunteers; and election of 5 Board members. In the Board meeting following, representatives of Santa Fe County provided an update on the County’s work to provide a portable building to extend library space.  See the 27 Jan 2010 news item below for more information.
